The 4th Annual Poteau Chamber/Kiamichi Tech BBQ Smack Down and Food Truck Festival will be September 23, 2023, in Poteau’s Downtown Dewey District in conjunction with the Annual Car Show.

BBQ cooks need to register by September 1st and be prepared to have at least 20 pounds of meat ready for people to eat by 11:00 on the 23rd. According to Karen Wages, Poteau Chamber of Commerce CEO, “All BBQ will be cooked on-site in the downtown area during the 24 hours prior to the event. Teams will assemble their tents, display their food, and be ready to serve the crowd by 11:00 AM on the 23rd. Judging for the BBQ awards will begin at 10:00 AM. Community members who want to sample the BBQ will pay only $10 per plate. All proceeds benefit the Poteau Valley Humane Society. We are proud to help sponsor this event that really serves as a fund-raiser for one of our community partners.”

“The Wing Eating Contest, sponsored by Bachoco/OK Foods will be held the same day. This fun event is open to the public with registration on-site the day of the event. There is no entry fee so anyone who wants to enter can just sign up that day. We just want everyone to come out and enjoy the day with us.”

Wages stated, “We’re excited to be able to continue this event in Poteau! It’s always a lot of fun for our participants and the community always enjoys getting to try all the different kinds of BBQ. We appreciate our sponsors and volunteers who always step up to help with our events. We couldn’t do it without them. Mark your calendars and plan to be in downtown Poteau September 23rd.”
