JOB TRAINING ASSISTANCE
Job training assistance may be found through the local Kiamichi Technology Center located next to Carl Albert State College. Various safety programs are offered at little or no cost to area manufacturers.

INDUSTRIAL FINANCING
Poteau works with various federal agencies to provide financial assistance for industries interested in locating in the area.

AREA INDUSTRIES
Already established industries include coal mining, rock and gravel production, plastics, sheet metal fabrication, and tool and die manufacturing, assembly plants and a poultry plant. Industrial facilities include Burton Tool & Cutting, Old Castle, and Ok Foods, Inc.

POPULATION
The 2000 census reported a population of 7939.
Estimated 2010 reported population 8520 for Poteau and 50,384 for LeFlore County.

ELECTRICITY
Local and rural electrical services are provided by OG&E Electrical Service 1-800-522-0280 and Kiamichi Rural Electric Corporation 1-800-888-2731 .

WATER
Water services are provided by the Poteau Valley Industrial Authority to the City of Poteau. A modern water treatment plant, located at Lake Wister, has a capacity of 10 million gallons per day. Contact: 918-647-4191

STEAM and CO2
Applied Energy Services, Inc. has constructed a co-generation facility just 10 miles north of Poteau. This plant produces up to 250,000 pounds per hour of steam and 250 tons per day of CO2.

CITY GOVERNMENT
Poteau is governed by a Mayor and an eight member City Council.

POLICE DEPARTMENT
There is a full-time Police Department with 27 members including the chief of Police

FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Fire Department has 18 volunteer firefighters including the chief. Poteau has a class 4 fire insurance classification.

SANITATION
Poteau has full garbage removal service, provided by Green Country Sanitation

STREETS
All major streets in Poteau are hardsurfaced.
